JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Credit Control Officer

Reporting Line: Credit Manager

Location: Arusha, Tanzania

Overall Purpose of the Job:

The Credit Control Officer is responsible for developing and implementing procedures and policies to ensure timely payments and credit control, with the objective of minimizing bad debts and maintaining high customer retention rates.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY / TASK

1. Reporting:

  • Ensure daily posting of all receipts and reconcile cash transactions with bank statements.
  • Conduct client visits to address reconciliation issues and non-adherence to payment terms.
  • Prepare monthly cash collection forecasts, debtors review reports, and other required reports.
  • Report credit matters weekly and escalate as guided by the Credit Manager.

2. Cashflow Management:

  • Ensure timely payment of debts for the head office and branches.
  • Implement and monitor procedures and controls for invoices, credit notes, order approvals, etc.
  • Facilitate efficient collections by providing accurate monthly statements and addressing customer queries promptly.

3. Debt Management:

  • Coordinate with the sales team on debt recovery efforts.
  • Send demand letters and monitor recovery procedures.
  • Engage external debt collectors when necessary.

4. Recovery Follow-up:

  • Continuously review credit procedures and controls to enhance efficiency and minimize revenue losses.

5. Others:

  • Undertake any other assignments within the finance department as delegated.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Key Competencies:

  • Proficiency in computer software programs.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Knowledge of high-volume collection.
  • Team player.

Academic / Professional Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Commerce, Accounting/Finance.
  • CPA or ACCA certification.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years proven experience in credit management.

Leadership Experience:

  • Yes

Decision-Making Authority:

  • Ensure all decisions align with approved guidelines.
  • Refer deviations to relevant authorities.
  • Refer changes to policies and terms to relevant authority.
  • Apply due care, diligence, objectivity, and consistency in decision making.
