Job Description
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles and be proficient in using accounting software. This role will involve a variety of tasks, including data entry, invoice processing, bank reconciliations, and other tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Data Entry: Accurately input financial transactions into accounting software, ensuring data integrity and consistency.
- Invoice Processing: Review and process invoices, verifying accuracy and ensuring timely payment.
- Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile bank statements against company records, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Petty Cash Management: Maintain petty cash records, ensuring proper authorization and documentation for disbursements.
- Accounts Payable: Process vendor payments, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Accounts Receivable: Follow up on outstanding invoices, ensuring timely collection of payments. Reconciliation and customer accounts and accurate allocation of payments received.
- Accounts payable: Monthly (or at other intervals as required) payments to suppliers, supported by a proper authorized documents and supporting vouchers. Ensure that suppliers accounts are reconciled to their statements monthly and payments are only based on approved invoices after reconciliation.
- General Ledger Maintenance: Assist in the maintenance of the general ledger, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records.
- Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, including monthly and quarterly statements.
- Administrative Support: Provide administrative support to the accounting department, such as filing, photocopying, and data entry.
- Audit assistance: Assist during internal and external audits in providing information required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Accounting qualification CPA Kenya or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounts department.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in using accounting packages like Quickbooks, SAP, Microsoft Dynamics, etc.
- Communication Skills- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly articulate findings and recommendations.
- Knowledge of financial accounting and auditing standards.
- Knowledge of tax laws and other statutory requirements retaining to businesses in Kenya
- Interpersonal Skills- Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving Skills- Ability to identify and resolve issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong ethical principles and integrity.
