Job Description

Location: Mombasa, Kenya

Job Description:

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Assistant Accountant will play a vital role in supporting the accounting functions of the company. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling various aspects of financial transactions, month-end procedures, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Manage accounts payable and receivable processes efficiently.
  2. Assist in the month-end closing activities.
  3. Analyze and reconcile petty cash, customer, and supplier ledgers.
  4. Ensure accuracy and timeliness of debtor and creditor ledgers and account records.
  5. Prepare payment requisitions for suppliers.
  6. Generate journal vouchers accurately.
  7. Assist in organizing debt collection activities and manage customer credit limits.
  8. Ensure timely preparation and submission of statutory returns, including VAT.
  9. Assist in developing schedules, procedures, and systems to streamline workflow.
  10. Maintain accurate and organized accounting records.
  11. Adhere to internal control processes and procedures.
  12. Support auditors during the annual audit process.
  13. Review costs and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
  14. Conduct internal system reviews, identify control weaknesses, and recommend improvements to management.

Requirements:

  1. ACCA or CPA affiliate or member.
  2. Experience with an ERP system, preferably SAP Business One.
  3. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  4. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
  6. Highly organized with keen attention to detail.
  7. Self-driven, adaptable, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
